After losing momentum between the first and second set of the match, the EC women’s volleyball team fired back to win its fourth consecutive win against Long Beach City College Wednesday Oct. 15.

The Warriors (12-2, 4-0) ranked No. 1 in the South Coast Conference swept away the No. 4 Vikings (5-8, 2-2) on the road as they won 3-0 in a 25-17, 25-18 and 25-10.

“I think we played pretty well. We served fairly well and had a lot of production in all of our hitting positions,” coach Le Valley Pattison said. “Long Beach is fiery, they like to play at home so we always like to beat Long Beach at home.”

The Warriors set the tone of the first set but the Vikings gained momentum as the Warriors lack of communication allowed the Vikings to go on a 9-6 run when the Warriors were only up by 3.

“We just need to keep our energy up and just make sure we’re doing the basics,” Sophomore outside hitter Darlene Lee said.

Lee had another led the game with 14 digs and 13 kills. Lee becoming one of the dominant players for EC as she makes a difference when she’s on the floor.

“She’s digging a lot of balls, passing very well and serving really well,” Pattison said. “She’s giving us a lot of points when she’s on the floor.”

Sophomore middle blocker Kimberly Haney recorded a hitting percentage of .500 with 14 kills on 24 total attempts along with freshman outside hitter Nickeisha Williams who had 11 kills on 18 total attempts.

The Warriors dominated third game defeating the Vikings, 25-10.

“We’re working hard on not letting the ball drop,” Haney said. “We just realized that we had to push through and that we shouldn’t just let up so easily.”
