Despite missing several swimmers the swim team has its best performance

Under the rain, cold weather, and missing half of its swimmers due to injuries and illness, the EC diving and swimming team had its best performance at Mt. San Antonio College on Feb. 28, coach Corey Stanbury said.

“Well it was cold and raining, it’s true the rain was coming down pretty hard during the raises but in the other hand they are also training about three hours a day and some of them are putting in about 12 thousand yards a day so they are tired and they will work very hard this week,” Stanbury said.

Jonathan Diaz, Sophomore, swimmer come back from being ill and he swam in the one thousand free Diaz made a time of 9:49″.94′ that is the second fast time on the state, Stanbury said.

“I did really well better than I unexpected, I was out almost a week with a sick and an injury but I came back and I won two of my events,” Diaz said.

However, Christy Villarsor 20, and Christopher Murphy both sophomores did pretty well even the rain and the cold weather made their dives more difficult during the competition, Stanbury said.

“(I) never dove in the rain, it was manageable but different,” Villarsor said. “It was actually my first meet of the season because the past two meets I was sick so I couldn’t go into the pool, but I thought I did well because I actually broke my points, well I got higher points than I usually get from the last season.”

The next event for the EC swimming and diving teams will host on March 7-8 at Cuesta College.
