Warriors' win streak ended

After dropping their first match against Pasadena which ended an eight-game win streak, the EC women’s volleyball team quickly washed the bad taste out their mouth with two consecutive victories against Long Beach and Mt. San Antonio.
The Warriors defeated the Mounties 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-14) in a crucial South Coast Conference match up that would determine who stands at first place.
The Warriors have a 15-4 record overall and are tied with Pasadena for first place in the conference with 8-1 records. Meanwhile Mt. SAC falls to 7-2 in the conference and a game behind the Warriors.
The first set gave all the indications that this would be a dogfight, with both teams tied at 25 a piece. But the Warriors were able to come up with a huge block* and won 27-25.
The momentum clearly shifted because it was all Warriors from that point on. They would go on to route the Mounties 25-19 in the second set and 25-14 in the final set.
Sophomore setter SueKalena Tafao led the way again with 13 kills and 11 digs along with freshman outside hitter Darlene Lee, who had 7 kills and 8 digs.
There are only five games remaining in the season, all against conference foes, so the Warriors will be looking to distance themselves from the competition and finish in first before the playoffs start.
The Warriors’ next game will be in L.A. Harbor College, Friday at 6 p.m. in a game that shouldn’t present too much of a challenge for the team.
