Applications open for artists to showcase their artwork in Schauerman Library

The Schauerman Library staff is accepting applications from artists to display their artwork in the display area between the front and back sliding doors.

“We like to show the real variety of the human experience through art,” Mary McMillan, public access librarian, said.

Exhibits can be held by faculty, student organizations, individual students and local artists. The exhibits are chosen by a committee of library faculty, staff and classroom faculty.

The committee reviews the applications and chooses the artists based on who matches specific criteria and how it would fit with their display schedule.

“We see (art exhibitions) as a way to be able to both highlight some of our local artists but also to highlight certain cultural or educational subjects,” McMillan said.

The display schedule is made two years in advance, so the committee is looking for artists who will display from 2015 to 2017.

To apply, artists can visit Schauerman Library and pick up an application and display policy at the circulation desk. The deadline is Dec. 12 and decisions will be made after the spring semester begins.

“We are actively searching for artists,” McMillian said.“I encourage students to get involved and come through every month and look at the displays.”
